Grassfire adds to NSW holiday traffic woes

The Princes Highway has reopened after a grassfire on the NSW south coast compounded traffic woes for Sydneysiders returning home after the long weekend.

A crash on NSW's north coast and a grassfire on the south have added to the traffic woes of Sydneysiders returning after the long weekend.

The grassfire in Ulladulla forced the closure of the Princes Highway in both directions around 3pm but emergency services have now reopened the highway.

A crash on Pacific Motorway about 4.30pm has taken out one southbound lane near Brooklyn, causing a 7km delay for drivers.

Emergency crews are still working to clear the lane.

The closures add to traffic jams crawling towards the city from all directions with an 18km queue at Warnervale on the M1 set to get worse as traffic gets heavier towards Sydney.

"We are expecting those delays to get worse," Transport Management Centre senior spokeswoman Bronwyn Martin told AAP.

"The biggest queues are most definitely heading south from Newcastle down the M1 into Sydney."

Jams are also waylaying travellers heading east across the Blue Mountains from Mount Victoria to Blackheath with 4km traffic queues.
