Firefighters and water bombing helicopters have extinguished a grassfire near the ACT-NSW border.

Fire crews are mopping up the scene at Nimrod and Oaks Estate roads in the ACT suburb of Beard.

The fire bordered the Molonglo River and covered about 3.5 hectares.
