The fire threat at Peterborough near Victoria's Great Ocean Road has been downgraded but the road closure may still cause traffic delays.

The Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) has issued an alert saying the grassfire in the Peterborough area is under control.

However, the Great Ocean Road is still closed.

Victoria Police are on hand to assist with re-directing traffic.

DEPI said there may be some delays for motorists.
