The discovery of 26 bodies in a Greek harbour town has raised the death toll from forest fires near Athens to 50, authorities say.

The death toll from forest fires near Athens has risen to 50 after a further 26 bodies were found, officials say.

The 26 bodies were found near the harbour town of Rafina, according to Red Cross workers and the region's vice-mayor Girgos Kokkolis.

The Greek state broadcaster reported earlier that 24 people had been killed.
