Greece's defence minister has replaced the country's military chiefs in the midst of an economic and political crisis following a decision to hold a referendum on a EU debt deal.
The decision to replace the heads of the general staff, army, navy and air force followed a meeting on Tuesday called by the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence (KYSEA).
A source at the defence ministry said that the meeting was previously scheduled and not linked to political developments.
In a statement the defence ministry also discharged a dozen army and navy officers.
Opposition parties questioned the government's motives behind the sudden reshuffle, saying it increased uncertainty within the country.
