Saturday night’s friendly between the Socceroos and Greece is more than just a game.
It’s a chance for Greek-Australian’s to celebrate their contribution to Football in this country.
Clubs like Sydney Olympic remain an important part of the game’s history.
Former Socceroo Jimmy Patikas says the club has left a lasting legacy on Australia’s football landscape.
“Every nationality and club has had a big impact I think if you really go down to the statistics they have probably brought up the most Socceroos,” Patikas said.
There’s no doubting Andrew Hatzioannou is Sydney Olympic’s biggest supporter.
Football is everything to him.
"Well it's followed my family my kids it's all I know mate all I've got,” Hatzioannou said.
Patikas remembers Hatzioannou cheering him on during his time playing for Sydney Olympic in 1983 and 1996.
“It’s funny because as a player I go this guy is a lunatic but he’s a gentleman a very nice smart man actually saw him last Sunday I went to see Olympic play and he’s doing his rounds,” Patikas said.
While their loyalties are split, both will be supporting the Socceroos.
“Greece is my Mum and dad’s team, my team is Australia,” Patikas said.
“It’s going to be sitting on the fence with splinters on," laughs Hatzioannou.
