Greece's recession levelled out in the first quarter with an economic contraction of 0.8 percent and the shrinkage eased slightly on a 12-month comparison, the state statistics agency said Wednesday.
"Gross domestic product in the first quarter of 2010 fell by 2.3 percent compared to the equivalent period in 2009, and 0.8 percent compared to the previous quarter," the Esye agency said.
The Greek economy also contracted by 0.8 percent on a quarterly comparison in the last three months of 2009.

On an annual basis, Esye said the contraction was 2.3 percent compared to a downwardly revised fourth-quarter figure of 2.6 percent.
