Green backs eight Cowboys for Origin berth

North Queensland NRL coach Paul Green says all of his players mentioned in State of Origin selection discussions would do their states proud.

North Queensland might have up to eight players selected for State of Origin and coach Paul Green believes none will be out of place.

The Cowboys on Saturday recorded successive victories for the first time this NRL season after beating Canberra, thanks largely to their Origin contenders.

Michael Morgan, Josh Maguire, Justin O'Neill, Matt Scott, Gavin Cooper, Kyle Feldt and Jake Granville are all gunning for a Queensland berth.

North Queensland prop Jordan McLean has played eight Tests for Australia and it looks like his NSW opportunity will finally arrive on June 5 in the series opener.

Green backed all of his players to deliver if selected.

"Origin is a great experience for whoever is lucky enough to be involved. All guys mentioned have all been playing some of their best footy in recent weeks," Green said.

"When you get a high representation, it's a bit of a challenge but the positive is the experience the players get out of it. They always come back better players, so you've got to take the good with the bad."

Morgan played his best game of the season against the Raiders, while Green said he'd like to see Granville and Feldt handed debuts.

"I hope (Granville) plays. I think his best footy has been in the last month, there's a chance there (at hooker) in that Queensland side and he won't let anyone down," Green said.

"Kyle Feldt was good tonight and he's been in the conversation around Origin too. I don't think he'd let anyone down either and he didn't do his chances any harm tonight."

Scott injured his shoulder in Canberra but Green said the 33-year-old would deliver if recalled to the Maroons.

"He's played 20-plus Origins so he knows what it's all about and I think, like Jake, his past month has probably been his best so far. Hopefully, his shoulder is alright and he gets another chance," he said.
