Green groups to lose charity tag: report

Activist groups could lose their charity status under proposals being discussed by the federal government.

Green groups could be stripped of their charity status following a proposed crackdown by the federal government.

Early discussions on the plan have included ways to tighten how tax-deductible donations can be spent, while forcing groups to reveal how the money is used, News Corp reports on Tuesday.

The overhaul could be extended beyond environmental groups to potentially include health, ethnic and housing charities.
