The Australian consumer watchdog will not stand in the way of wagering giant Tabcorp's proposed $128 million acquisition of gaming technology firm Intecq.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission found Tabcorp and Intecq are not close enough competitors for the supply of gaming technology to warrant a challenge to the proposed takeover.

ACCC chairman Rod Sims says the commission also investigated concerns Tabcorp may misuse gaming and customer data obtained from venues using Intecq technology, but trusts the industry is well regulated enough to prevent that.
