Greens claim second seat in Tasmania

Rosalie Woodruff has been re-elected in the southern Tasmanian electorate of Franklin, giving the Greens two seats in the state's new parliament.

The Greens will have two seats in Tasmania's new parliament after Rosalie Woodruff was narrowly re-elected in the southern electorate of Franklin.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission on Thursday morning declared Ms Woodruff had edged the Liberal's Nic Street by a mere 226 votes after the distribution of preferences.

She'll join Greens party leader Cassy O'Connor in the state's parliament.

But it wasn't good news for fellow Green and Bass incumbent Andrea Dawkins, who has lost her seat to Labor's Jennifer Houston.

The Greens struggled for relevance in a five-week election campaign devoid of a key environmental issue.

Ms O'Connor said earlier this month the party would conduct a review to dissect its campaign performance.

The Liberals were returned to power with 13 seats at the March 3 poll.

Labor has finished with 10 seats, adding three to their 2014 haul.

Labor candidates Jen Butler and Janet Lambert are in a tussle for Labor's second seat in Lyons.

First-term Liberal MP Joan Rylah lost the third Liberal seat in Braddon to fellow Liberal Roger Jaensch.
