Greens propose new clean energy body

Greens MP Adam Bandt has made a pitch for a new statutory body to plan for and oversee the transformation of Australia's energy system.

The Greens have called for the creation of a new authority to oversee Australia's transition to a new clean energy system.

The proposed body, called Renew Australia, would help ensure coal-fired power stations are closed in a planned manner and new renewable energy objectives are met.

"This will be the Snowy Hydro of the 21st Century," Greens MP Adam Bandt told parliament while introducing a private bill on Monday.
