Three years on from Julian Assange's entry to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, Greens senator Scott Ludlam says his work is more important than ever.

Senator Ludlam condemned the Australian government for refusing to stand up for one of its citizens.

"Despite the extraordinary pressure brought to bear by some of the most powerful institutions on earth, WikiLeaks has continued to publish leaked texts of the secret Trans-Pacific Partnership corporate rights agreement," Senator Ludlam said on Friday.

He said no Australian officials had queried the "increasingly erratic and indefensible behaviour" of Swedish prosecutors, who he says have delayed questioning Mr Assange over sexual assault allegations.

Mr Assange sought asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in 2012 after Swedish police issued a warrant for his arrest.

He has also faced international scrutiny over WikiLeaks, which has published thousands of documents, mainly from within the United States government.
