Greens slam asylum seekers' island detour "Ž

The Greens say the federal government has ignored a High Court ruling after a boatload of asylum seekers being taken to the mainland stopped at an island on Ashmore Reef.

The stopover would preserve the asylum seekers' status as offshore entrants, giving them fewer legal rights than those who land directly on the mainland.

Last year the High Court ruled asylum seekers should have access to the same rights regardless of where they land.
