Treasurer Scott Morrison has put the nail in the coffin of a GST hike, saying such a decision is not fit for launch.
"Cabinet decided that this was not a goer, that it was not go for launch, it was something that had to be put away," he told the National Press Club in Canberra on Wednesday.
The time was not right for a GST increase and the government would not take an increase to the next election, Mr Morrison said.
