A US military lawyer who defended Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks has joined a high profile legal team to challenge the legality of the centre.
Dan Mori, who gave up his military career and moved to Melbourne last year, will be joined by human rights barrister Julian Burnside QC in bringing the action in the Supreme Court of Nauru.

The case involves 10 asylum seekers facing rioting and wilful damage charges, but Mr Mori says it could have broader implications for other detainees.
