Guard posted at Vic fire risk apartments

A security guard has been posted at a block of Frankston South apartments after an audit revealed an immediate flammable cladding risk.

A Melbourne apartment block covered in flammable cladding is such a fire risk, a security guard has been posted out the front to try and prevent an arson attack.

The owners of flats in the Frankston South building have been told by the Victorian Building Authority the cladding will have to removed immediately, opposition planning spokesman Tim Smith revealed in parliament on Wednesday.

The VBA has inspected about 2000 buildings, most of which are privately owned, for flammable cladding in a crackdown sparked by London's deadly Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.
