Guildford signs Tasman NPC contract

Zac Guildford will play NPC rugby for Tasman when his NSW Waratahs commitments finish this year.

NSW Waratahs back Zac Guildford is switching his New Zealand provincial allegiance from Hawke's Bay to Tasman after the Super Rugby season.

The Tasman Rugby Union announced the 27-year-old former All Black has signed a contract for this year's NPC campaign.

Guildford has played 74 games for Hawke's Bay, including last year after he returned early from a club stint in France.

Off-field issues have followed Guildford since playing the last of his 11 Tests in 2012.

He was unwanted by the Crusaders following his fifth season with them in 2012 and was thrown a lifeline this year by Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson, making limited appearances for the Australian conference leaders.

Guildford's signing helps fill a hole for Tasman, who are likely to be without their injured Sunwolves winger Viliami Lolohea (ankle) for the NPC season starting in August.
