Former All Black Zac Guildford has earned a recall for the NSW Waratahs' vital Super Rugby clash with the table-topping Chiefs on Friday night.

One of four changes to the starting side, Guildford replaces Reece Robinson on one wing after impressing with a series of line breaks in the Waratahs' last-up 29-10 loss to the Crusaders.

Utility back Matt Carraro also joins the 15 on the opposite wing to accommodate Rob Horne's move to inside centre in his 100th game for NSW.

Horne is the third Waratahs player to reach a century of games for the state this year, having played his whole career for NSW after debuting back in 2008.

The Test star replaces David Horwitz, who has been relegated to the bench.

Veteran back-rower Wycliff Palu has been injected as the No.8 role as cover for Jed Holloway, who re-injured his shoulder during last week's loss to the Crusaders.

Tough back rower Jack Dempsey will provide added strength on the Waratahs bench after recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in South Africa.

Lock Will Skelton will notch 50 Super Rugby caps against the Chiefs, who can put a major dent in the Waratahs' finals hopes with victory on Friday.

The match will be the Waratahs' last game for five weeks due to the break in Super Rugby for the June internationals.

Waratahs: Andrew Kellaway, Matt Carraro, Israel Folau, Rob Horne, Zac Guildford, Bernard Foley, Nick Phipps, Wycliff Palu, Michael Hooper (capt), Dean Mumm, Will Skelton, Dave Dennis, Tom Robertson, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Paddy Ryan. Res: Hugh Roach, Jeremy Tilse, Angus Taavao, Sam Lousi, Jack Dempsey, Matt Lucas, David Horwitz, Reece Robinson.
