Gun control has become a hot political topic in Australia lately, but gun control advocates say politics is getting in the way of passing meaningful laws in New South Wales.

Gun control has become a hot political topic in Australia lately, but gun control advocates say politics is getting in the way of passing meaningful laws in New South Wales.

Western Sydney has been the focus of gun control discussions recently. There alone, there were more than 100 shootings in 2012, and more than 30 so far this year.

But NSW police say despite all the political attention, crime involving guns is actually down from its peak in 2001.
