Gunman holds two in Brisbane siege

Police say they believe two women are inside a house where a gunman is keeping police at bay in north Brisbane. Police were called to a disturbance at the Banyo address just before 11am (AEST).

Inspector Sean Cryer says police went into the house but quickly left and believe the man has a gun.

Insp Cryer says police don't know who the man is but they believe he's not a resident of the house.

Attempts to make contact with the man via the home telephone and a PA system have been unsuccessful.

A Special Emergency Response Team and police negotiators are at the scene, while neighbouring houses have been evacuated and streets in the area cordoned off.
