Police have seized drugs, guns and other deadly weapons after stopping an unregistered car in Sydney's southwest.

Officers patrolling in Austral identified the Holden Commodore via an automatic numberplate recognition scan just after 1pm on Sunday.

They stopped the car, with checks revealing the driver had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

He was detained and the vehicle was searched, allegedly yielding a loaded sawn-off double-barrel shotgun, a target pistol, ammunition, drugs including ecstasy, ice and cannabis and a number of swords and knives.

The 22-year-old has been charged with the two outstanding warrants and 15 other offences.
