GWS call up Greene, Corr for AFL derby

GWS and Sydney have each made two changes for their AFL derby, while North Melbourne and Brisbane have opted to swing the axe after underwhelming losses.

GWS captain Phil Davis has been passed fit for Saturday's AFL derby at the SCG, while the expansion club has recalled small forward Toby Greene and defender Aidan Corr.

Greene, who has been sidelined since round one because of a calf injury, and Corr, who will play his first game since round 17 of the 2018 season, have been called up at the expense of Matt Buntine and Jackson Hately.

The Swans also made two changes, promoting Lewis Melican and Nick Blakey in place of injured veteran Kieren Jack and omitted young forward Ben Ronke.

Giants coach Leon Cameron admits it "didn't look good" after Davis rolled his ankle in a shock loss to Fremantle but the key defender is now ready to line up on Lance Franklin.

"He's confident in himself and we back him," Cameron said.

"He wouldn't put up his hand if he wasn't able to play."

In other selection news, North Melbourne coach Brad Scott has swung the axe after his team's 58-point loss to Essendon that prompted stinging criticism from club greats Wayne Carey and David King.

The Kangaroos have dumped Paul Ahern, Jy Simpkin and Bailey Scott for Friday night's clash with Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

North have called up Luke McDonald, Nick Larkey and Tarryn Thomas, while Port have named an unchanged team.

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has also made a selection statement after his club's heavy loss to Collingwood, blooding debutant Noah Answerth amid four changes for Saturday's derby on the Gold Coast.

Mature-age recruit Josh Corbett will also make his AFL debut in the derby, having replaced Chris Burgess in the Suns' side that was thumped by Adelaide.

The injury-enforced omission of skipper Jarryn Geary is the only change that second-placed St Kilda have made for Saturday's clash with Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.

The Crows have overlooked axed forward Josh Jenkins, instead asking Myles Poholke to fill the void left by injured playmaker Wayne Milera.

Fremantle have called up Cam McCarthy and Ryan Nyhuis for Saturday's home match against Western Bulldogs, who have replaced Bailey Williams with Jackson Trengove.

Hawthorn captain Ben Stratton and Geelong defender Zach Tuohy headline the notable inclusions in Sunday's extended squads.
