GWS relishing AFL return to Adelaide Oval

GWS's Tim Taranto says his AFL club will take confidence from their previous outing at Adelaide Oval as they seek to beat Port Adelaide at the same venue.

GWS are relishing a return to Adelaide Oval and another hostile reception on Sunday, when they face Port Adelaide in a crunch clash that could reshape the AFL finals race.

The Giants snapped a four-game losing streak and turned their season around in South Australia some seven weeks ago, upsetting Adelaide by 16 points.

It was the expansion club's first victory over the Crows at Adelaide Oval.

GWS have since won four of five games to force their way back into the top eight, with last Saturday's triumph over Richmond the greatest indicator they've found form.

The Giants could be one win outside the top four if they become the second side this season to defeat Port in Adelaide, and other results fall their way.

GWS could also easily fall out of the top eight if they lose.

"We'll be very confident," Tim Taranto told reporters.

"I haven't played against Port at their home ground. Apparently it's a crazy crowd, so that's exciting.

"It'll be another good chance to play in front of a good crowd, another hostile environment.

"We don't get the sort of crowds they do as often, so it can boost our performances I think ... and we take full confidence from our last performance in Adelaide."

Taranto suggested last week's return of Toby Greene, who kicked the Giants' only goal amid a barnstorming last-quarter comeback from Richmond, has also given his side some extra confidence.

"We all know how good he is and he's going to continue building and get fitter," he said.

Taranto has proven the Giants' Mr Fix-It this season, playing all over the ground while enhancing his status as one of the league's best young talents.

The former No.2 draft pick was among the club's best against the Tigers, drifting forward to kick two goals in their two-point win.

"If I tell him to play half-back, he'll say 'not a problem'," GWS coach Leon Cameron said.

"If I say wing or half-forward, not a problem.

"He's got a huge will to help his teammates get over the line ... he's the ultimate team player."

Taranto's endurance is one of his strengths but the 20-year-old has also enjoyed some time in the midfield this year, learning plenty from Callan Ward and Stephen Coniglio.

"I'm reviewing my games with them and trying to take as much from them as I can," he said.
