GWS youngster Ahern traded to Kangaroos

Injury-prone Greater Western Sydney midfielder Paul Ahern has joined North Melbourne after two seasons with the Giants.

Young midfielder Paul Ahern will join North Melbourne after two injury-ravaged AFL seasons at Greater Western Sydney.

The Giants will receive pick No.69 in exchange for the 20-year-old, who was taken with pick No.7 in the 2014 draft.

The Victorian, who is yet to make his AFL debut, missed the 2016 season after undergoing a knee reconstruction - his second in as many years - in February.

He is unlikely to appear for the Kangaroos in 2017 after tearing his right anterior cruciate ligament last month.

Ahern joins forward Cam McCarthy (Fremantle), midfielder Jack Steele (St Kilda) and veteran defender Joel Patfull (retirement) as players to depart the Giants during this year's trade period.
