Michael Hagan has ruled himself out of the race to replace Mal Meninga as Queensland's State of Origin coach.
Hagan, who has served as Meninga's assistant since 2010, says he has no interest in returning to the position he left at the end of 2005 after two series in charge as the Maroons' mentor.
"No, I'm not (interested)," Hagan told News Corp Australia. "I've had that opportunity 10 years ago and I'm really thankful I had the chance to do that role but it's time for Queensland to start planning for the next era.
"I've really enjoyed my involvement with Mal and the team for the last six years.
"I don't know what role or involvement I may have in the future but it certainly won't be in head-coaching ranks - that's for sure."

Instead, Hagan - who was recently released from his role as football director at Newcastle - is interested in taking the next step up with Mal Meninga, as an assistant with the Kangaroos.
"We haven't talked about that but Mal and I work really well together," he said.
"If that opportunity came along, I'd have to consider that, for sure."
Hagan's declaration seemingly opens the door for fellow assistant coach Kevin Walters to be unveiled as Meninga's successor.
