Snow-like hail has blanketed roads and backyards overnight as severe thunderstorms swept across southeast Queensland.
The storms look set to continue into Thursday, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning that more hail and damaging winds are likely as far north as Gympie.
"That hail, even know it's not large, can still be quite damaging," meteorologist Harry Clarke said on Thursday.
The cold air upper low system pushed east from the ranges on Wednesday afternoon before dumping hail as large as 3.5 cm near Ipswich and Beaudesert into the evening.
"That cold air really aids hail growth, which is why we've seen such prolific hail in some of these thunderstorms," Mr Clarke said.
Thunderstorms will continue into the weekend with severe storms likely to extend further west towards Toowoomba and Warwick before moving towards the coast.
