Halfpenny named in Wales' 6 Nations squad

Experienced fullback Leigh Halfpenny, concussed playing against the Wallabies in November, has been named in Wales' Six Nations squad.

Wales have included Leigh Halfpenny in their Six Nations squad, despite the fullback not having played rugby since he was concussed playing against the Wallabies in November.

British & Irish Lions star Halfpenny, one of seven back-three options in a 39-man squad named by coach Warren Gatland, was poleaxed by Wallabies centre Samu Kerevi in the 9-6 victory in Cardiff, one of four November wins for the Welsh.

"We'll make an assessment when he comes in," Kiwi mentor Gatland told reporters.

"We'll see where he's at. He's been advised to continue training and stuff. If he's right, he'll be in contention but if not we'll have to make some other plans."

Wales start their Six Nations campaign against France on February 1, seeking a first crown since claiming back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.

Their European campaign will be closely watched by the Australian camp as they are in the same group for this year's World Cup in Japan.

Michael Cheika's men face the Welsh in their second clash of the tournament in Tokyo on September 29, with Uruguay and Fiji also in Pool D.
