Hamstrung Hartung axed by North

North Melbourne has announced it will not be offering six players, including Billy Hartung, AFL contracts in 2019.

Billy Hartung has been delisted for the second time in as many seasons, shown the door by second AFL club North Melbourne.

The speedster left Hawthorn at the end of 2017, having played 63 games for Alastair Clarkson and narrowly missing selection for the 2015 grand final.

He was given another chance by the Kangaroos and played the first 13 matches of the season, impressing as the unfancied club shot to 8-5 in the win-loss record.

But in round 14, he tore his hamstring off the bone against the Western Bulldogs, ending his season.

He won't get another one at Arden Street, with North Melbourne deciding against renewing his contract.

Hartung joins Tom Jeffries, Oscar Junker, Gordon Narrier, Daniel Nielson and Josh Williams as six players to be delisted by the Kangaroos.

"It's the worst part of our job, by far," the club's football boss Cameron Joyce said.

"We wish all the players the very best for the future and hope they find other opportunities."

Gold Coast also delisted four players on Tuesday, led by Michael Barlow.

The veteran forward was clearly not preferred by coach Stuart Dew as the club looks to the future, playing just three times this season.

Max Spencer, Josh Jaska and Mackenzie Willis have also been delisted.
