Veteran prop Ben Hannant still feels he has plenty to offer North Queensland but is not afraid to take his NRL career elsewhere.

The 31-year-old's future with the Cowboys remains unclear, despite room being made by the departure of James Tamou for Penrith after this season.

But even if Hannant's not re-signed, he's "not even close" to retiring.

"Obviously I'm getting older now so I'm further down on that list of priorities," Hannant told AAP.

"I'm not thinking about hanging up my boots.

"I'm probably in the best shape of my career. I look after my body now better than when I started."

Hannant has accrued nearly 240 NRL games with Sydney Roosters, Canterbury, Brisbane and the Cowboys, and has played 12 Origins and six Tests.

He said he's attracted interest from "a fair few clubs".

"I'd love to stay up here but I know how the games works," Hannant said.

"I'm sure something will come up. I'm very confident."

Despite injuring a wrist ligament in the Cowboys' 26-12 loss to Canberra on Monday, Hannant said was ready to play Canterbury on July 21 after his team's bye this weekend.

"The week of rest will do me a world of good," he said.
