Hansen grabs third cycling title

Natasha Hansen has produced another dominant display in the women's keirin to secure her third title at the national track cycling championships.

Southland's Natasha Hansen has claimed a hat-trick of titles at the national track cycling championships in Cambridge with victory in the women's keirin.

It was another dominant display from Hansen, who powered to the front with a lap to go and pulled away from the field.

The result followed her wins in the 500m time trial and the sprint.

Waikato's Raquel Sheath made it a double by taking out the women's 10km scratch race to go with her points race gold the previous day.

Sheath was prominent throughout before attacking with two laps to go to beat home Southlander Kirstie James.

In the men's 30km points race, former omnium world champion Aaron Gate produced an impressive ride as he lapped the field twice on the way to victory.

He finished with 61 points, while road convert Ryan Wills (50) and world team pursuit champion Pieter Bulling (24) filled the minor placings.

The men's keirin produced a photo finish, as Matt Archibald made a well-timed run to overtake Simon van Velthooven on the line.

World champions Emma Foy and pilot Laura Thompson were close to their sea-level best to win the para-cycling tandem 3000m pursuit.
