Australian Benn Harradine has become the first indigenous Australian to win a men's field event winning the gold medal in the men's discus at the Commonwealth Games.

Harradine, who turns 28 on the final day of the Games on Thursday, clinched the victory with a throw of 65.45m - just one metre shy of his personal best set last month at the Continental Cup in Split.

India's Vikas Shive Gowda thrilled the near-capacity crowd at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium by claiming silver with 63.69m while England's Carl Myerscough was third with 60.64m.
