The man picked to replace injured Canberra co-captain Josh Hodgson says he'll keep things simple to give the players around him clarity.

Siliva Havili has been named at hooker to face the Bulldogs on Saturday after Hodgson was ruled out for six weeks with a broken thumb.

Hodgson missed 13 NRL games with a knee injury last season and Canberra's spine struggled without the England international.

Havili filled in last season and admitted Hodgson was a "big loss", one of at least six starters the Raiders are missing due to injury and State of Origin.

"All that experience and maturity he brings to our team, the leadership quality he brings, it's definitely going to be a big loss," Havili said.

"I know my game is different to Hodgy's and all I can do is play a real simple game and give lots of clarity to the players around me.

"At the same time I don't want to be too conservative and miss my opportunities. I need to be clear and wise with the decisions I make.

"We've got a lot of key players missing but it's no excuse for our performance this week."

Five-eighth Aidan Sezer returns to replace NSW Blues utility Jack Wighton, while England international John Bateman was named on an extended bench.
