Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has made it clear that he has no interest in replacing Brad Scott at North Melbourne.

The four-time premiership coach's name is invariably thrown up when AFL jobs become available, but his 93-game playing career with the Kangaroos is an added link with the Arden Street club.

But Clarkson, who is contracted until the end of the 2022 season, moved to emphatically shut down any such speculation on Friday.

"In my particular case, as is the case always when these things come up, I'm very committed to what we're doing here," Clarkson told reporters.

"I'm in the third wave of trying to secure some silverware for our footy club.

"The first one was obviously 2005 to 2008 and then 2009 to 2012 when we built ourselves to a position to challenge for silverware again.

"We're in the middle of a phase right now where we're trying to do that again and I'm very committed to that and my contract status with the club reflects that.

"I don't anticipate I'm going anywhere, and I don't want to unless the club tap me on the shoulder and said 'We think it's time'.

"If that's the case, then I'll look elsewhere but that's not going to be the case."

The Hawks, ninth with a 5-5 record, will attempt to climb back into the top eight with a win against sixth-placed Brisbane at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Mitchell Lewis and Isaac Smith return from injury for the clash, but Clarkson still can't find room for ex-captain Jarryd Roughead, who didn't even make the emergency list.

"He's right in the mix," Clarkson said of Roughead.

"He played well again for Box Hill last week, but this week going to Brisbane it was more about the travel, what Box Hill need and what we need.

"He wasn't part of that but ... it's really a lottery with who you put on your emergency list.

"It wasn't Roughy this week but that doesn't mean he's any further away or closer than he has been.

"His attitude over the past few weeks has been first class."
