Hawthorn have swung the axe after their shock loss to Essendon, cutting four players for Saturday's AFL clash with Adelaide at the MCG.

Ryan Schoenmakers, Taylor Duryea, Billy Hartung and James Sicily have been dumped, replaced by former skipper Luke Hodge, debutant Teia Miles and second-year duo Kade Stewart and Ryan Burton.

It will be Hodge's first game for the season after being slapped with a one-game suspension for missing a training session.

The Crows will welcome back skipper Taylor Walker from a hamstring injury, with youngster Troy Menzel making way.

Reigning premiers the Western Bulldogs have made two changes for Friday night's grand-final replay against Sydney at Etihad Stadium.

Ruckman Tom Campbell and key defender Marcus Adams replace veteran Dale Morris (fractured leg) and forward Toby McLean (omitted).

Sydney have named three debutants with Nic Newman, Robbie Fox and Will Hayward replacing Dane Rampe (arm), Dan Robinson (shoulder) and the omitted Dean Towers.

Journeyman ruck Jonathan Giles will return for West Coast on Saturday when they host St Kilda, replacing Drew Petrie after his broken hand in the Eagles' win over North Melbourne.

The Eagles have also recalled gun defender Tom Barrass and midfielder Dom Sheed to replace injured duo Eric Mackenzie (soreness) and Lewis Jetta (glute).

Paddy McCartin, Blake Acres and Leigh Montagna will return for the Saints in place of Nick Riewoldt (knee), David Armitage (groin) and Nathan Wright (omitted).

Injury-prone Gold Coast veteran David Swallow is set to play his first game since July 2015 after being named alongside Jack Leslie to face Greater Western Sydney on Saturday at Spotless Stadium.

Young Giants Jacob Hopper and Nathan Wilson will come in for Tendai Mzungu (hamstring) and the omitted Matthew Kennedy.

Brisbane and Essendon have made one change each for Saturday night's game at the Gabba, with the Lions' Jack Frost replacing Ben Keays and the Bombers' Ben Howlett in for Josh Green (hamstring).

North Melbourne big man Majak Daw, Geelong's Zac Smith, Melbourne midfielder Dom Tyson and Carlton's Harry McKay are among the potential inclusions for Sunday's games after being named in extended squads.
