Code hopper Jarryd Hayne was unable to inspire a Fiji comeback in his highly anticipated rugby sevens debut, which ended in a 31-10 drubbing by home side England.
Hayne was introduced with four minutes and 31 seconds of the game remaining at Twickenham, his new side already trailing 24-5 in the London Sevens World Series opening clash thanks to a superb double by English try machine Dan Norton.
For most of that time Hayne was spectating from the middle of the field as the action unfolded around him.
His only touch of the ball came after the full time siren on his own goal line.
The two-time Dally M medal winner ran at the defence in his typical swashbuckling style, drew a defender and threw the ball out to Samisoni Viriviri.
Hayne followed up in support for the return pass, but it found Englishman Tom Bowen instead who scored in the corner to ice the game.
Moments before Hayne's only touch he saved a try in the opposite corner, chasing down Oliver Lindsay Hague who produced a poor pass to his support player, quashing the attack.
Hayne wasn't required to tackle his man on that occasion, or anyone at all during his brief stint.
His next involvement will likely come against Wales later this afternoon, with a showdown against Australia looming this evening.
Fiji need only to qualify for the quarter finals to secure back to back World Series Championships, and the England loss has now potentially opened the door for South Africa to leapfrog them to the title.
Australia kicked off their campaign with a routine win over Wales on Saturday morning.
Two tries to Henry Hutchison helped secure a 22-10 ahead of this afternoons clashes with England, and Haynes Fiji.
