Jarryd Hayne will add another format to his belt next February when he heads across the ditch for the Auckland Nines.

Hayne, 28, will don a Gold Coast jumper for his first pre-season hitout of 2017 in the two-day tournament, held weeks before the start of NRL action.

He'll join fellow rugby league stars Johnathan Thurston and Shaun Johnson at the Nines.

"You'd rather be playing in the Nines than doing those pre-season sessions we'll be doing," Hayne said on Wednesday.

"It's open, obviously there's less players on the field, and then you get games that go end to end."

The two-time Dally M medallist will use the tournament to gear up for his first full NRL campaign since signing with Gold Coast on a lucrative two-year deal.

The former Parramatta star joined the Titans in August after stints in the NFL, with the San Francisco 49ers and with the Fiji rugby sevens.

Hayne said he was enjoying his time on the Gold Coast but that Parramatta and western Sydney would always be home.

The fullback made six appearances for the Titans in 2016, making 14 tackle breaks.

"Being an adventurous person, it's always good to live in different cities and travel the world, experience different things," Hayne said.

"There's a lot of guys who are from out of town as well, so it was really easy to fit in and the guys really accepted me."
