Hayne received bigger offers from Sydney

Jarryd Hayne has hinted that a bigger offer was on the table from at least one Sydney club before he returned to the NRL with Gold Coast.

Jarryd Hayne has suggested he knocked back a bigger offer from at least one Sydney club before agreeing to reignite his NRL career with the Gold Coast.

Hayne has been under fire since inking a two-year deal with the Titans on Wednesday, which will allow him to return to the NRL as soon as this Sunday against the Warriors.

However the decision has seen Hayne criticised by a number of Parramatta fans, including club great Ray Price, for accepting the biggest offer and not fulfilling a promise to return to the Eels.

But in response to a tweet from a journalist which said the 28-year-old should admit he went to the highest bidder, Hayne said it wasn't the case.

"He would of signed with Sydney club, if that was the case," he tweeted.

"But once again you struggle with research."

Hayne's manager Wayne Beavis admitted on Wednesday night that St George Illawarra had tabled a formal offer to the NFL and Rugby Sevens code hopper.

It is unclear if any other Sydney clubs could have come into calculation, given a number of others ruled out the option of signing him and the Eels are known to have offered him a lesser figure.
