The San Francisco 49ers have no plans to play Jarryd Hayne against arch rivals the Seattle Seahawks despite star running back Carlos Hyde being ruled out.

But, coach Jim Tomsula has provided some hope Hayne could be elevated from the practice squad to the game day team later in the season.

"Well, not for this game," Tomsula, asked about Hayne's future, told reporters on Friday.

"My foreseeable future is Sunday."

Hyde, with fractures in his ankle, will not travel to Seattle for Sunday's (Monday AEDT) must win game for the 49ers.

Shaun Draughn, a former running back for the Cleveland Browns and signed by the 49ers after Hayne was cut, will likely start against the Seahawks.

There has been speculation Hayne might quit the NFL and return to the NRL, but his manager Wayne Beavis has dismissed that.

The 49ers, last in the NFC West division, need a win against the Seahawks, also in the division, to keep their playoff hopes alive.
