Hayton appointed as NZRL chief executive

Alex Hayton has been confirmed as New Zealand Rugby League's chief executive, having been in the role on an interim basis since January.

Alex Hayton has been confirmed as New Zealand Rugby League's chief executive after having taking over the role on an interim basis.

The appointment comes after a recruitment process and NZRL board chairman Garry Fissenden says in Hayton's favour was maintaining consistency of leadership.

"One of the messages we received from all our stakeholders was their confidence in NZRL leadership," Fissenden said.

"Alex already commands the respect of NZRL staff and board, and keeping that continuity was important to us."

Hayton stepped in as interim chief executive after Phil Holden stood down in January.

He joined the NZRL in 2007 and was previously the organisation's chief financial officer.
