Josh Hazlewood is likely to be rested from the early stages of Australia's ODI series against India.
Australia will switch into white-ball mode following the current SCG Test, with India arriving in the country this week ahead of a five-match ODI series starting in Perth on Tuesday week.
Selectors will on Monday name a 13-man Australian squad for the first three games in that series.
Hazlewood, whose workloads have been worrying team management since the first of the summer's six Tests, is expected to be given a spell, as a long list of absentees tests Australia's pace depth and underlines his importance.
The 24-year-old is currently leading Australia's attack following a year of transition in which Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris both retired, while Mitchell Starc underwent ankle surgery.

Pat Cummins and Nathan Coulter-Nile are also both on the sidelines because of injuries.
Hazlewood, who was worn out at the end of last year's Ashes series, will be sorely needed in Australia's two-Test tour of New Zealand in February, while he also looms as an essential member of their T20 World Cup campaign in India in March.
Harris is confident Australia will ensure Hazlewood is fit and firing for the side's T20 World Cup opener on March 18.
"It's a World Cup and I think they'd adjust workloads for him to play in that World Cup," Harris told AAP.
"When it comes to World Cups you don't rest your top bowlers.
"I'm sure they're on top of that."
Scott Boland, Gurinder Sandhu, Sean Abbott, John Hastings, Kane Richardson and Jason Behrendorff are some of the quicks around the country that will be hoping for a call from selectors.
The aspirants are also in the mix for a T20 World Cup call-up.
"Just about every paceman playing in the Big Bash is obviously up for consideration because we've lost those quicks," Harris said.
"There's plenty of guys that could do it."
Harris' advice to those thinking about a potential berth in Australia's 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup was simple: don't.
"Boys are playing for spots. They know there's spots available," he said.
"It could probably cost a couple of them, if they're worrying about that and not about the Big Bash.
"It's too far ahead."
Harris had mixed feelings about the rise and rise of the Big Bash League (BBL).
"I hate the fact the hype has gone away from the Test series but in saying that it's great to have a T20 competition this big in Australia," he said.
"Outside the IPL, this is the one that everyone in the world wants to play in."
Melbourne Renegades duo Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade are set to be among the BBL stars summoned to Perth for the first ODI on January 12.
George Bailey has been in good form for Hobart but selectors may want to squeeze Test batsmen Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns into the ODI squad.
