Australia were knocked out of the Champions Trophy in unceremonious fashion but it proved a productive tournament for Josh Hazlewood.

The paceman is now the No.1 bowler on the International Cricket Council's ODI rankings, having snared 6-52 in Australia's washed-out clash with New Zealand earlier this month.

Hazlewood took nine wickets in three Champions Trophy matches, helping him overtake compatriot Mitchell Starc plus South Africans Imran Tahir and Kagiso Rabada on the ICC's ODI bowling charts.

Starc is the most recent Australian to top the ODI bowling rankings.

The left-armer claimed the mantle during a productive 2015 that included him being named player of the tournament following Australia's successful World Cup campaign.

Meanwhile, India skipper Virat Kohli has dethroned Australia vice-captain David Warner as the top-ranked ODI batsman.

Kohli is now a single ranking point above Warner, who managed scores of 18, 40 not out and 21 during the Champions Trophy.

England defeated Australia in a rain-marred match last weekend, sending Steve Smith's winless side home from the Champions Trophy.

Tournament hosts England, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh progressed to the semi-finals.
