Finance Minister Mathias Cormann was quick to remark on opposition leader Bill Shorten's Budget reply tweet, claiming to have sprung an unfortunate typo.

Mr Shorten wrote a short numbered list in response to the 2018 Budget, which was delivered by Treasurer Scott Morrison on Tuesday night.

In a screenshot of a tweet claimed to be from Shorten's official Twitter account - an attempt to count to five had failed.

Instead, the tweet showed '1, 2, 3, 3 and 4'.

On Friday Shorten's official account showed a corrected version of the Tweet.

But Mr Cormann claimed to have noticed the numbers did not add up and posted a response mocking Mr Shorten's ability to count.

"Bill Shorten's numbers don't add up. He can’t even count to five properly, he can’t be trusted with our economy or our budget," he wrote.

Mr Shorten's office has been contacted for comment about the tweet.

Earlier he hit out at the government’s plan for big tax changes in 2024-25.

This prompted Mr Cormann to question Mr Shorten’s numbers.
