The crime research bureau for NSW says violent assaults in Sydney seem to have decreased because of Sydney's lockout laws.

A foundation that works to reduce alcohol-related harm says it's concerned about the future of lockout laws in Sydney.

The laws cover Sydney's central business district and popular nightspots such as King Cross, and force hotels not to sell alcohol after 3am and refuse entry to patrons from 1.30 in the morning.
