WHAT THE MAJOR PARTIES ARE OFFERING ON HEALTH POLICY

COALITION

* $2.9 billion boost to public hospitals over four years

* $21 million trial of Health Care Homes program to manage chronic diseases and complex conditions.

* Categorise private health insurance policies as gold, silver or bronze and set minimum standards.

* Develop specialised insurance product for people in rural and regional areas.

* Continue threshold freeze on private health insurance rebate.

* Extend freeze on Medicare rebate to doctors to 2020.

LABOR

* $4.9 billion boost to public hospitals over four years.

* $100 million trial of new primary care model, Your Family Doctor, where GPs co-ordinate all of a patient's health care.

* Establish Australian Healthcare Reform Commission to advise governments and develop funding agreements.

* Continue threshold freeze on private health insurance rebate.

* Remove private health insurance rebate from policies covering natural therapies.

* Lift freeze on Medicare rebates to doctors from January 1, 2017.
