There may have been no shortage of runs - or Test claims - in Queensland's Sheffield Shield draw with Western Australia in Brisbane.
But sadly incumbent Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne missed an opportunity to push for retention.
While Mitch Marsh, Matt Renshaw and Joe Burns made selectors sit up and take notice, Labuschagne will be sweating on his future ahead of next month's first Test against India after a double failure on a flat Allan Border Field deck.
Defending champions Queensland are without a Shield win this season after their third round clash with the second placed Warriors fizzled to a draw.
The match was called off early in the last session of the final day with the second last placed Bulls 2-135 in their second dig, Burns was 80 not out as the hosts led by 43.
WA batsman Will Bosisto was named man of the match after his career high 167 not out helped the Warriors post 540 in their first innings while Test allrounder Marsh struck 151.
Warriors skipper Marsh revelled on the benign deck to give a not so subtle message to selectors after being overlooked for Australia's one-day series against South Africa following a dire Test series against Pakistan.
He embraced the chance to regain his batting mojo at the small AB Field ground along with Queensland's Test aspirants Burns and Renshaw.
The former Australian openers provided selectors food for thought ahead of the India series with Burns also hitting 49 in the Bulls' first innings which featured Renshaw's fine 89.
But Labuschagne missed out, dismissed for 10 on Tuesday to add to his first innings dig of 11.
Labuschagne made a surprise Test debut against Pakistan in their ill-fated series in UAE under new coach Justin Langer but his future appears uncertain after failing again.
Queensland looked wobbly at 2-76 in their second dig on Tuesday - still trailing WA overall by 16 runs - when Labuschagne was trapped in front by Marsh for 10.
But Burns stepped up with 12 fours and a six in his 85-ball stand to ensure a draw.
"I am hitting the ball well. Every game is a chance to push for Australian selection," he said.
Earlier, Bosisto was the last man standing when WA were finally dismissed with an unlikely 92-run first innings lead.
His 377-ball knock featuring 22 fours was his second ton of his 19-game first class career.
Bosisto had shared a 185-run sixth wicket partnership with Marsh to rescue WA who were at one stage reeling at 3-42 in reply to Queensland's 9(dec)-448.
"When you see a guy put together an innings like that, it's amazing. I loved every minute batting with him," said Marsh.
