Heat prompts total fire bans across Tas

Most of Tasmania will be subject to total fire bans as the state continues to to experience hot, dry weather.

Authorities will be on high alert with most of Tasmania under total fire ban as the state continues to sweat after recording its second-warmest summer.

Fire bans have been declared across southern Tasmania and the west coast for Saturday.

The day is forecast to be extremely dry and temperatures will reach the high 30s across much of the state.

The Tasmania Fire Service says all fires, barbecues, portable stoves and ovens that use solid and liquid fuels - and machinery including grinders - cannot be used after several people were caught flouting Friday's ban.

"For the duration of this total fire ban, there is a ban on any machinery being operated in or near dry combustible vegetation. This includes grass slashers and other machinery that can cause sparks," state fire controller Shane Batt said.

"Even using domestic lawn mowers in the current conditions is strongly discouraged. If any equipment being used causes a fire, the person operating that equipment is responsible and liable for the damage caused."
