Brisbane Heat made a statement of intent at North Sydney Oval, inflicting a crushing seven-wicket defeat on last season's finalists Perth Scorchers.

The Heat hit 3-104 to ease past the Scorchers' 8-103 on Saturday with 7.1 overs remaining to bounce back in style from last weekend's opening-round loss against Adelaide Strikers.

Australian representative Jess Jonassen hit the winning runs in a whirlwind knock of 28 from 17 balls, having earlier belted four fours off as many deliveries during a Bhavi Devchand over.

Heat opener Beth Mooney also remained unbeaten on 25, having carried her bat despite facing just 23 balls.

But the win was set up by the Heat bowlers, most notably medium-pacer Sammy-Jo Johnson (2-9) who conceded just nine runs off four overs.

Jonassen (2-17) and Delissa Kimmince (2-24) also made strong contributions with the ball, leaving the Scorchers struggling at four an over for much of their innings.

Elyse Villani played a composed captain's knock at the top of the order for Perth, posting 45 off 55 balls, but she received little support with no other batter getting a start.
