Heat's Lynn goes big in injury return

Chris Lynn has smashed 83 from just 28 balls in his return from a calf injury in a practice game as he eyes a return to national colours next month.

Chris Lynn has proved his fitness the only way he knows how, blasting 83 from just 28 balls in a practice match that served as his comeback from a calf injury.

Lynn batted twice at the University of Queensland on Wednesday against a Brisbane grade cricket attack that felt his full wrath.

A relatively subdued 37 off 22 in the first game was followed by an outrageous knock in the second, with Lynn hitting eight of his first 16 balls for six.

The Brisbane Heat batsman was recalled to Australia's one-day side earlier this month, in what he admitted may have been a premature promotion after returning from shoulder surgery.

A minor calf injury meant Lynn was a late withdrawal anyway, a setback that gave him an extra stint on the sidelines he says was probably for the best.

"If I'm brutally honest I probably wasn't ready to play one-day cricket," he said.

"But I might've been in the squad to play just two or three of them.

"You never know, it might have been a blessing in disguise coming back from that long term injury if I do miss one or two weeks, rather than six or seven if I did fatigue in a 50-over game."

The 27-year-old is in Australia's squad for next month's Twenty20 international tri-series and is hopeful of returning for the Heat's final Big Bash League game on Saturday.

Humbled to have so much faith shown in him, Lynn hopes to repay it by transferring his domestic T20 form to the international arena.

"It is (nice to know the selectors are behind him) but I've still got to put the runs on the board when I get there," he said.

"I've got a couple more innings under my belt now and I can hit the ground running in the green and gold."

Australia begin their T20 series, against England and New Zealand, with a Trans Tasman meeting with Kiwis on February 3 in Sydney.
