WBBL championship coach Peter McGiffin will resign from his Queensland Cricket roles, citing personal reasons.

McGiffin coached the Brisbane Heat to the WBBL title and also led the Queensland Fire to the WNCL final.

He had been head coach of the Heat and Fire for the past two seasons.

McGiffin also has worked extensively in coach and player development.

"He shaped a fantastic program for the players that culminated in the Heat winning the WBBL title and the Queensland Fire making the WNCL final,'' said Queensland Cricket high performance manager Brett Jones.

"He was always keen to bring new methods to his coaching with the aim of ensuring players were as well prepared as possible.

"He played a major role in supporting critical research into player skill development aimed at increasing the use of match-based scenarios rather than traditional net training."

McGiffin had worked at Queensland Cricket for more than four years.

"It was not an easy decision to step back from a job that I have thoroughly enjoyed, but I know I have made the right call,'' he said.
